I get called tinfoil hat if I say companies and governments employ shills to sway public opinion on the internet. Take a look at this, on reddit:

These "users" seem to support Faceboook. However, one time the shill forgot to switch his account when talking to himself and you'll see he answered to his own reply with the same usename.
Companies, no. Governments? Yeah, kinda.I get called tinfoil hat if I say companies and governments employ shills to sway public opinion on the internet.
Samsung was found guilty of paying people on the internet to talk bad about competing products and good about their products. SAme for HTC, Apple, etc. it's common practice even in the companies I'm afraid.Companies, no. Governments? Yeah, kinda.
Nice find though. Almost as hillarious as those gaming company employees giving bad games a 10/10 on the metacritic user reviews.
By "yeah kinda" I meant "yes they'll call you a tinfoil hat". It's perfectly reasonable to suspect companies of pulling this shit given the huge amounts of bullshit they already do. Hard to see why governments would do it though. "control the population" is a pretty vague reason. Influence elections? They already do that openly, they have propaganda on their side.Samsung was found guilty of paying people on the internet to talk bad about competing products and good about their products. And hiring shills is just one more cheap way of spreading propaganda. It isn't even a conspiracy theory anymore, there's lots of proven cases. They already do that openly, they have propaganda on their side.
A quote from one of those websites:And hiring shills is just one more cheap way of spreading propaganda. It isn't even a conspiracy theory anymore, there's lots of proven cases.

When we're talking money, power or geopolitical interest, nothing is unethical. People, governments, entities will do ANYTHING for these 3 interests.
I convinced myself of internet shills when there were presidential elections in America. That was a gloomy time to be on reddit. Anything you'd say neutral - not negative, neutral was enough - about Obama, you'd get like -5 karma in 2 minutes. And holy shit, half the start page was about how Obama is Jesus and Romney sucks. Then after Obama got re-elected, you could bash him in any possible way and you'd get upvoted.
And you want me to take this shit seriously.A recent public posting on a "conspiracy theory" forum -- conspiracy websites are typically the most heavily targeted by government officials -- admits that individuals are constantly being recruited and hired by shadowy groups and government-affiliated agencies to manipulate online discussions.
