I had bad experience with WD. Two 2TB drives just died in less then 2 year. Hitachi on the other hand has never failed to me.

Some brands ARE generally more reliable than others. I know that sometimes you can get a really good brand and have fabrication problems or the product will break in a week, but generally speaking, in my experience, buying a Sony instead of Allview increases your chances of not having your device break early. And there's also build quality - how solid the device feels in the hand, if it "squeaks" when you apply pressure, etc.

I have one of those RDS tablets from Allview - it works fine but the build quality is shit for example, it's not very solid, it's bendable, etc.

But yeah in the case of HDD producers, it's mostly hit or miss. Brand doesn't mean a lot there.

Yeah, ofc there are differences between some, but those cases are a bit obvious I believe.
