Compare a cat's reaction to her owner returning home after being away for a few months to a dog's. Or when you are dying, or your pet finds you dead. A cat will pretend nothing happened.

Now... I'm not trying to play "my daddy beats your daddy" here, both pets have pros and cons, all I'm saying is that giving a shit about you ain't exactly one of the pros of cats. It's really a matter of preference and people will choose the pet whose traits they like best.

Most cats do that, it's an instinct to bring kills to their guardian. The cat can probably still smell him, I'm pretty sure a cat can't figure out that her owner is dead buried in that grave. Dogs do that too and it's the same thing, they don't really understand the concept of being buried after you die. They still smell the owner and will oftentimes hang around the grave for many days.

Cats are just as faithful as dogs btw. They're bred to fill the same roles.
