Same problem. Without old file (nwindow.dll) client will not start on W8.

I can, but it will not fix the problem, cause:

With old nwindow.dll your client will work, but w/o shieldext so you'll not connect to server. :\

I use Win 8.1 Pro x64. Beta worked, but now L2 didn't started anymore (not even in win7 compatibility mode).
I changed the nwindow.dll now L2 starts but when i try to Login it says to me my Acc-Name or PW is wrong.
When i start it with anti-ddos it stucks at Login.
